The Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 CM 1242-5 and CM 1243-5 PROFIBUS Communication Modules connect compatible S7-1200 controllers to PROFIBUS DP networks.
The CM 1242-5 operates as a PROFIBUS DP slave/device, allowing an S7-1200 station to exchange cyclic I/O data with a PROFIBUS DP master. The CM 1243-5 operates as a PROFIBUS DP master and additionally supports PG/OP and S7 communication. Both modules support PROFIBUS transmission rates from 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s through a 9-pin Sub-D RS485 interface and are configured using Siemens STEP 7 within TIA Portal.
