Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500 CPU 1517H controllers are high-performance redundant PLC CPUs designed for industrial automation applications where high availability and continued process operation are critical.

The CPU 1517H family uses a coordinated two-CPU architecture in which process-relevant data is synchronized between the controllers through dedicated H-SYNC communication. If the process-controlling CPU or its associated path fails, the redundant partner can maintain or assume process control according to the configured S7-1500H system architecture.

Depending on the applicable CPU 1517H generation, the controllers provide multiple PROFINET and Industrial Ethernet interfaces together with dedicated H-SYNC channels. Fiber-optic H-SYNC architectures can support physically separated controller installations, including long-distance synchronization configurations of up to 10 km with the appropriate Siemens synchronization components.
